CHARLIE FARREN

Back for his 4th year on this event's judging panel, Charlie Farren is known for great songs, great singing, and for outstanding live solo acoustic performances. The BoBB has been lucky enough to have him perform live in an exclusive performance to open the event in years past.
 
In the early '80s, Charlie was lead singer and guitarist with THE JOE PERRY PROJECT and in 1986 along with Dave Hull (Joe Perry Project) and John Muzzy, formed FARRENHEIT. Three singles from that album established FARRENHEIT as one of the premier new rock acts and receiving awards, media attention and new fans across the country.
 
Charlie’s new CD, TUESDAY is his best work to date, featuring a song that was written but never released by longtime friend, the late Brad Delp, powerhouse vocalist for the legendary band BOSTON.Charlie continues to be one of America's most original and compelling musical artists. He takes the stage alone, and leaves the stage with a roomful of new believers.

Carter Alan, mid-day DJ on 100.7 WZLX, returns for his 3rd year as a BoBB judge. Carter began his career in the music world working Saturday overnights on WBCN, “The Rock of Boston” in 1979. He was soon heading up the battle of the bands “The Rock and Roll Rumble” and directed this annual event through 1987.

Over the years as a DJ with WBCN, Carter hosted legendary artists like U2, Joan Jett, ZZ Top, Billy Idol, R.E.M., the Bangles,  and Joe Perry and interviewed others Robert Plant, George Harrison and Carlos Santana.  He emcee’d dozens of concerts in the area for groups like Boston, Aerosmith, U2 and represented WBCN in London at the 1985 Live-Aid concert. A 4-time winner of Billboard Magazine’s prestigious national award of “Music Director of the Year”.
 
In addition to his musical successes, Carter is an accomplished writer, his first book ‘Outside is America - U2 in the U.S.’ sold over 70,000 copies. Carter enjoys bringing his knowledge of music and musicians to the airwaves.

Legendary Broadcaster &  Boston's beloved Radio Voice, Candy O'Terry, joins us for the 2nd year to judge the Battle. Honored by her peers in 2015 as the Broadcaster of the Year, Candy O HAS spent 25 years on Magic 106.7 connecting with listeners in an authentic, memorable way. She is also an accomplished singer, voice over pro, and master interviewer whose mission is to shine a light on women doing great things with their lives.

 

The President and co-founder of Boston Women in Media & Entertainment, host of The Story Behind Her Success podcast series and creator of the Exceptional Women brand, Candy is the recipient of 45 local and national awards for excellence in women’s programming.  She is an Executive Coach and certified Protocol Consultant for Brunner Communications.

 

Born in New York City and raised in Connecticut, Candy came to Boston to swim and dive for Boston College.  She swims every day and is an American Red Cross Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor.
